The Human Heart

The important of making a good war story is when it strikes you in the heart. The story that hit me the most was when Rat Kiley went up to the baby water buffalo and shot it in the knee. That was just the beginning of the horrible act against the animal. Rat kept on shooting it in different area the nose, ear, the hump on its back and the buffalo didn't even make a sound, it kept on going down and up. Later on Rat went automatic and started shooting everywhere on its body. Eventually it went down and didn't get up anymore it eyes were enormous and black. Then Rat was crying and went off running. Everybody gather around the dead baby water buffalo one of them kicked it was still alive but barely just in the eyes.  They hauled it and threw him in the village well. That story got to me cause I'm an animal person, not like PETA, but i like animals. I took care of some in High School at the Fullerton Farm. I had three steers and two lambs in the four years that I went there. I was reading that part and it got me mad and felt sad for the baby water buffalo cause it was defenseless and that no one in the group did nothing  to help. What Rat whispered to the baby water buffalo i want to know and wanting to know why was he crying. Maybe realizing what he had done to the poor animal or for his friend dieing I want really what to so if any one know tell me.At least he could have done it quick and painless. In the back of the head or slice the throat like they do when they butcher an animal for meat. They dumped the corpse in the village well and not even eating whats left of the animal for a good source of protein and vitamins for their body. I could ask Tim O'Brien in person one day well have to wait and see.

  1. I too am a animal lover and was deeply disturbed by that part in the story. I hated how they made the poor thing suffer. I think thats it's super cool you took care of animal. I think animal are gifts from God. who ever can hurt a helpless animal, deserves to be put in jail and is seriously disturbed. Let me know what happens when you ask Tim O' Brien.
